From Radio to TV

The first televised episode was a filmed TIYL radio broadcast which aired on Truth or Consequences and featured Emma Crooks Gilbert, a minister's wife. TIYL began its official TV run on October 1, 1952 with the life of Laura Stone Marr, mother of actor Milburn Stone, Doc on Gunsmoke. An instant hit on NBC, the show virtually stopped America in its tracks every Wednesday night - even churches re-scheduled prayer meetings.
